NACAR Board Messages

HAPPY NEW YEAR from the NACAR Board of Directors, committee members, and consultants!

December 2017 to January 2018 CalendarWe are grateful that you are with us on this journey of faith and love. I, for one, am very grateful to be flipping the calendar from 2017 to 2018. I don’t think anything magical will happen when I flip the page on the calendar. I am enough of a realist to know that this one simple action won’t change the many issues facing our world today. For me, it is a symbolic move … a reminder that “the steadfast love of God never ceases; God’s mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning (Lam. 3:22-23).

I am not one for New Year’s resolutions, although this year I want to contribute to a revolution of hope, community, inclusiveness, and faith. I am borrowing this idea from Parker Palmer’s On Being column:

https://onbeing.org/blog/my-five-new-years-revolutions/

I invite you to join me in this quiet revolution.

In his book A Bigger Table” Building Messy, Authentic, and Hopeful Spiritual CommunityJohn Pavlovitz wrote:

You may need to speak first, so that others who may not have the strength or the opportunity to speak can find their voices. (p.151)

As Associates and Religious, we are blessed to experience hope, faith, and community through our various ministries and encounters with God’s people from the mundane to profound. We have also had the experience of honest struggles with community life, Associate life, ministerial life, church life, and “just” life. Research shows that when we share our experiences we give hope and encouragement to others. We create connections of good will, inspiration, and empowerment.

In this new year, speak first … share your voice … tell your story … tell the story of your community. You may never know whose heart you touch, but it may be enough to give someone the strength they need in that moment. NACAR is always looking for stories for The Associateand Global Sisters Report is still recruiting Associates to write columns (reflections) in the variety of areas traditionally covered in the publication. Please join me in this quiet revolution of faith and let us share the Good News of God’s never-ending mercy and love.
